Hemlock

Welcome to our (rescheduled!) Hemlock Overlook event, taking place in a compact regional park along Bull Run that has the same open and fast terrain as our Fountainhead venues further downstream.

Course-setter Chris Gross has prepared a full set of classic courses--White through Blue--for this event (stats are below). Expect a 700 meter walk over flat ground to a remote start for the Yellow through Blue courses with the finish near the parking lot/check-in. White start and finish will both be near the check-in site.

Also, for this season's Hemlock meet, we will be returning, for parking and event administration purposes, to Kincheloe Rd Soccer Park adjacent to Hemlock's southern end. Click here for a printable graphic overview of the soccer park and road access to it which also shows the relative locations of the two parks, Hemlock Overlook and Kincheloe, as well as the Bull Run Occoquan Trail (BROT). The Kincheloe parking lot is easy to access and provides lots of space, but it is also in need of regrading. Use minimal speed inside the gate.

You may encounter orange bow-hunting signs posted in and around the park and/or hear gunfire. Don't worry, there is no hunting in the park on Sundays, and the shooting noise comes from a range on the other side of Bull Run. Also, running/walking across the Kincheloe soccer fields is allowed as our event takes place in the soccer off-season.

As usual, everyone must be out of the woods and back at the registration/finish area to download by 3:00 pm.

Keep in mind:

• ALL participants must pre-register. There will be NO day-of, on-site registration. Refunds only in the case of event cancellation.
• There is NO water or food on the course or at registration; please come prepared to meet your own hydration needs.
• Bring appropriate clothing for winter weather conditions.
• There are no pavilions or park shelters at this check-in/parking site.
• The size of start teams (groups of individuals orienteering together with one e-punch) on a course is limited to no more than four individuals.
• Port-a-johns will be on site.
• Pets are permitted in both Kincheloe Rd and Hemlock Overlook parks but must be leashed at all times.
