The event was able to proceed this time around after a weather-related cancellation the previous week. A total of 126 people came out to enjoy the beautiful and steep terrain of the Patapsco Valley State Park in slightly grungy weather. The event finished just before a batch of snow rolled in, leaving the control pickup crew to retrieve the controls in deteriorating weather.

In the morning Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer set up the e-punch desk aided by Esben Jepsen and Russell Kenny. Valerie printed and sealed the maps, and as always Amy treated us with delicious cookies and fudge. Esben Jepsen and Russell Kenny helped Anne with setting up the registration area; Kim and Esben took care of bringing sawhorses and signage up to the remote Start and Finish.

Registration was smoothly handled by Dasa Merkova and Anne/Kim. During the day Valerie Meyer and Amy Louden ran the e-punch table assisted by Aaron Linville – thanks to the e-punch team for their tireless efforts.

Control pick-up was quite challenging with controls spread all the way to Orange Grove and with no easy access to reach them. However, with a little help from the QOC Uber service for the outbound travel they were all retrieved by Josh Prucnal, Massey Bartolini, Misty Nielsen, Aaron Linville, Howie Weinstein (on mountain bike…), and Victor Lin. Thanks for going the extra mile(s).

Finally, the event would not have been possible without the volunteers who worked behind the scenes: Don Fish, Mike Newman, Greg Lennon, Craig Shelden, Reiko Rager & David Rager – thanks! Thanks also to Massey for a detailed weather forecast, which helped confirm a ‘go’ for the event in spite of a slightly dicey forecast.
