What a great day for orienteering in January! We got incredibly lucky and had weather close to 50 degrees. Despite muddy conditions and out of control brambles, we had 190 starts, 5 people who came back for a second start, and a total of 231 participants.
Thank you to everyone who worked hard to get this event off the ground. Prior to the event, Craig Shelden, Mike Newman and Don Fish worked to get everything sorted out regarding the date, venue, permits and making all necessary arrangements. Greg Lennon worked quickly to get the event website updated, set up the registration as well as online sign up for volunteers, and answered many, many questions leading up to the event.
We very much appreciate the course setting efforts of Mihai Sirbu and Michael Manteuffel. They worked very hard in a short amount of time to get the courses ready for the event, having to contend with location changes a few times, and put in many miles in just a few short days to have all controls set up and ready to go.
Day of the event, Harry Jones, Greg Palardy and Stephanie Coffin arrived early to help with set up and get parking sorted. Harry, Greg, Chris George and Jennifer Fauth ensured registration went smoothly. Parking was handled by Stephanie, Saleena DeVore and Reiko Rager. Beginner instruction was taken care of by Jason and Meilynn Hataye, Jody Landers and David Levine. Greg Palardy pinch hit for us when we needed extra help. Meilynn is our youngest beginner instructor and did an amazing job!
Our amazing epunch gurus Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer handled the epunch station with their usual efficiency. Valerie made sure all maps and clue sheets were ready for the event, and Amy stayed after to make sure all controls were accounted for after pick-up.
Control pick-up was handled extremely efficiently by an amazing team: Jared Silk, Justin Green, Sydney Dixon, Joe Barrett, Martins Jonass, Jens Wira, John Baker and Michal Jarnik (who braved the mud on his bike!). We really appreciate control pick-up volunteers, as they go back out on after running their own courses.
Clean-up was a quick and easy task thanks to everyone who stayed behind. Greg Lennon graciously volunteered to pull all the tape off trees as well as pick up all the signs after the event. Suzanne Izzo helped sort all the epunches and Jennifer Fauth worked with Amy to get the controls in order. Many thanks to all who stayed behind to help pack up – Justin, Martins, John, Jennifer and Ted Good.
We also would like to give kudos to Sid Sachs for providing stats quickly after the event as well as tallying points for every single event.

Little Bennett was the first social opportunity of the year, we hope everyone had fun participating. It was awesome seeing O’ers hang out, and would love to see more of that this season. Please keep an eye out for more social opportunities coming up!
