November 8
Sunday

Hemlock photo by Jan Allbeck Welcome back to Hemlock Overlook Regional Park - this time for the day event! We'll have a full set of courses, from beginner to advanced. Many controls are shared with the Night-O courses, and some courses are shared, so you have a chance to run either the same or a different course during the day compared to the night. Course stats are now posted below.

Event timing will be standard: register anytime between 10:45 - 1:15, start between 11 - 1:30, and be back before the controls start being picked up at 3pm. Course and map details are below. Dogs on leash are welcome at this park; please do not let your dog(s) run off leash.

Map scale is 1:7500 for White, Yellow, Orange, Beige and Brown courses; it is 1:10,000 for Green, Red and Blue.

Any youth or large groups attending this event should contact the Event Director so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group; the group registration and waiver form is part of the information on our Group Leaders page.

Note: our next event on Sunday, Nov. 15 is the Mid-Atlantic Championships and it requires pre-registration. All QOC members are encouraged to attend to help us win the coveted Broken Compass Award - read about the event here and then please pre-register!

Course NotesClassic

Since most of the controls are used for both the Night and Day events, they will have reflectors attached to them. So, if you come to the Sunday meet only, the controls will look a little different than usual - in addition to the bag and the control box there will be a piece of pipe with reflecting tape on it.

As always, be very careful of using the vegetation as a navigation aid. Even though the map is only a year old it has changed quite a lot.

Important Notes
  • At the event, we can only accept payment in cash or check; online, you may use a credit card or PayPal account.
  • You may become a member at the event or by joining online via this webpage (which also explains the member benefits). Membership is completely optional.
  • Most of our events use an 'epunch' timing chip for electronic timing. Individuals or groups without their own epunch pay a higher entry fee (see above), which includes the loan of an epunch for that event. Loaned epunches that are lost incur a $40 replacement fee. Epunches (also known as SI-cards or finger sticks) are usually available for sale at each event as described here.
  • Compasses are available at no charge, but if lost incur a $15 replacement fee.
  • Please provide collateral (driver's license or car keys) when borrowing a compass or epunch.
  • For additional safety, whistles are available for sale at $1/each.
  • Free beginner instruction is always available - just ask at the registration table.
