Our meet at Lake Needwood defied the forecasts of deluge, thunder and lightning and experienced only light rain -and even sunshine in the afternoon. The temperature was pleasantly in the low 70s but humid for runners. More than 150 orienteers turned out for the meet (including all children), sadly lessened by those scared off by the forecasts.
Note: The Brown, Green, Red and Blue courses had an untimed road crossing. The results below are the net time after the crossing time, of up to 3 minutes, was subtracted. However, the splits posted to Attackpoint and to WinSplits, as well as RouteGadget, are the uncorrected times.
I have a few particular shout-outs to extend, and the first goes to all the adults who are bringing children and youth to our QOC events. It is a joy to have them come out, and I hope they will make friends and beg to participate in the future!
The next shout-out goes to our terrific course setter Keg Good. I heard lots of raves about the fun courses and lots of happy chatter and faces from orienteers post-race. Thank you for the great job and dedication. Keg also provided additional help throughout the meet and getting the control kit ready for the next course setter.
The next special shout-out goes to mapper Nadim Ahmed: Several people told me that the thought the mapping was especially fine. A good map is, of course, the foundation on which everyone else builds to pull off a successful meet.
And of course, kudos to E-punch gurus Valerie Meyer and Amy Louden. Their reliable work underpins every meet.

It is so terrific to have a wealth of volunteers! I can’t stress enough how helpful it is to Meet Directors for folks to step up without arm twisting! In that vein, I’d like to give another particular shout-out to Steve Sweet and Luke Kovacs who volunteered with their children even though they did not plan to do courses!
Oh, and Happy Anniversary to Anne and Kim!
I also hope that all the QOCers off in adventure racing land last weekend had fun and safe races. We missed you.
