A big BIG thank you to Mike & Pam Dvorsky for setting up a full set of excellent courses. And special thanks to whoever put in the order for pleasant weather. It was a perfect day to be outside in the woods. Hilary Maloney and her daughter Skyler deserve a shout out for showing up early and helping to set up the registration area, and to Skyler for helping us put out the flags to the start. Hilary has volunteered to be a meet director at a future event and she and Skyler came especially to learn about the Meet Director’s role.
We are grateful to volunteer extraordinaire, Harry Jones for staffing the Registration table most of the morning and for the assistance of Suzanne Izzo and Robin Moon at the registration table. Beginners instruction was ably handled by Rob Briber, Dan Lathrop and David Levine. Some of the beginners mentioned to us that they appreciated the pointers and basic O skills that were shared.
Many thanks to the control pickup crew, who went out at 3:00 pm to retrieve the 54 controls that Mike and Pam had set over the entire expanse of the Patuxent River Park, including: Dave Linthicum, Jared Silk, Mike Stasiowski, Robin Moon, Cecilia Landers and the members of the Houghton family - dad Martin and sons, Zachary and Alexander. You helped to cap off a fantastic day of orienteering. Thank you also to Laura Linville for retrieving the start and all of the flags leading to it at the end of the day. Also, thanks for Jane Legget for helping to cleanup and pack up the meet kit at the end of the day.
Lastly, we couldn’t do the e-punching without the expert volunteer services of Amy Louden and Valerie Meyers. It should also be noted that Valerie prints and bags the maps for the events.
It is always a great pleasure and honor to work with such a committed group of volunteers. Thank you!
