We would like to thank everyone who came out for the first Maryland event of the season on the CCBC Campus in Catonsville, MD. We had hoped to get the Intro-to-O participants into the woods, but because of the soggy week and questionable forecast we moved them over to our Sprint-O-Palooza courses. Thankfully the weather improved to overcast with persistent dampness so that everyone could enjoy a run (or walk) around the CCBC campus.
This was our Intro-to-O event for the Maryland area and our group of instructors introduced ~60 people to the sport of orienteering. It was great to see so many individuals, friends, and families join us for part of their day. While the woods were wet, CCBC was full of smiling faces looking for controls across the campus.
In addition to the white and yellow intro courses, Alex Azarov designed a full slate of sprint courses that had us running in every direction. Participants in Sprint-O-Palooza were provided with two sprint courses to run and the combined results can be seen in the results below. In all there were 163 starts (222 people), many trying sprint orienteering for the first time. Look for another sprint event at George Mason University in the spring. None of this could happen without the help of the many volunteers in the QOC family. We would like to give a great big thank you to the following helpers:
