This year’s event at Marlboro Natural Area/Swanson Road had typical May weather with the rain holding off until the very end until almost everyone was gone – shout out to those who stayed until the very end! Course setters/designers Russ Damtoft and Michael Manteuffel prepared the courses for the day, working hard until just before the event started to get all controls set up, despite the park turning very green quite quickly. Thanks to their hard work, we had 130 starts and 16 groups participate.
Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this event happen. Prior to the event, Craig Shelden and Mike Newman sorted out details regarding the venue, permits and making all necessary arrangements for the day. Greg Lennon kept the event webpage updated and handled online registration.
Day of, Jody and Cecelia Landers, Ninely Murphy and Beàtri Bennett worked hard to set up for the event. Harry Jones organized the registration area with his usual efficiency as well as checked in participants, along with Art Cantrell and Jay Dell. Jane Leggett stood in at the end to help with any late questions.
Jody, Rashann Duvall, Debbie Pederson and Rich Briggs made sure parking went smoothly. Jason and Meilynn Hataye and Erin Brandt made sure all beginners who needed a lesson in orienteering were sent off into the woods with quick training. Meilynn continues to be our youngest instructor and did an awesome job!
Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer handled the epunch station with their usual efficiency. Valerie and Roger Meyer made sure all maps and clue sheets were ready for the event. Matt Smith took over for Amy while she was out on her course. As always, thank you to Amy for her amazing post-run cookies!
John Cummings, Alex Merka and Matt Smith and Adam Smith organized a fun event for Juniors, arriving early to make sure the Memory-O course was set up.
Thanks to the group who braved going back out into the woods to pick up controls after running their own courses: Matt Smith, Turkmen Ozerol, Art Cantrell, Martins Jonass, Paul Hession and his brother-in-law George Kase, Paul Morris, Justin Green, Caitlin O’Brien, Allison Saunders, and Craig Shelden.
Clean-up was a team effort thanks to Scott Sharp, Nadim Ahmed, Peggy Dickison, Iva and Jan Zicha.
Of course, a huge thank you to Sid Sachs for providing stats quickly after the event as well as tallying points for every event, and Kathleen Lennon for updating social media and uploading photos for all events.

I thank everyone for helping to make this event such a success. Volunteers make sure these events happen efficiently and smoothly. It truly takes a village and QOC has amazing members!
