You’ll see the detailed results below – but a quick glance shows over 200 starts on a beautiful early March Sunday in Calvert County along the eastern shore of Patuxent River.
We could not have asked for a nicer day out in the woods in a very different Kings Landing event than we've ever had before as our advanced participants explored both Kings Landing Park and adjacent Natural Resource Management Area. The NRMA added almost a thousand acres of orienteering to the event, at the small cost of fording Cocktown Creek and adjacent marshes.
This event could not have happened without the generous and enthusiastic support of our hosts Jenny Yoder, Park Manager Calvert County Parks and Recreation and Danny Jones of Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources.

Holding an event in a new place starts with a good idea and then turning that idea into something real with lots and lots of hard work. Today’s Inaugural event happened only due to the dedication of Mike and Pam Dvorsky, taking the first steps to check the site, compare notes with other mappers (like Dave Linthicum), draft and test that map and design fun courses.
The behind-the-scenes team included Jane Leggett recruiting our team for today, Mike Newman working logistics and insurance, Kathleen Lennon drafting publicity flyers used by our hosts, Greg Lennon covering web page announcements and registration, as well as Roger and Valerie Meyer printing and sealing the event maps.
Those maps were brought to Kings Landing today by Harry Jones who also organized our registration area and greeted our participants after they had parked safely following Casey Moton’s guidance.
Registration continued through the day supported by Stephanie Coffin (who also helped set up), Iva Zicha and Richard Briggs.
Our beginners were set on the right path by Parker Nevenglosky and Aaron Linville, who also stood in for our scoring guru, Amy Louden, so she could go out on a course, too.
Bill Schork, Ted Good, and Don Fish helped with clean up and pack out.
The control pick up team went back to the woods to bring in all the controls: Steve Camp, Jen Fauth, Sharmagh Yepremian, Beatri Bennett, Justin Green, Suzanne Shelden, Don Fish, Ted Good, and Art Cantrell. Paul Hession also offered control pickup support.
Daniel Shelden recovered all the QOC directional signage from Route 4 into the park.
Sharmagh Yepremian organized a fun social after the event to compare notes and share perspectives on the event.
