Thank you so much to all 287 of you who joined our event Sunday! What a great day we had with orienteers of all ages enjoying a marvelous selection of courses set up by Keg Good and first-time course designer/setter Lydia Andrews setting the white course. Many, many hours of work go into getting the maps and courses prepped and set for us to enjoy. For this event, the Hemlock map was updated by Daniel Heimgartner based on notes from course designers. Thank you Keg, Lydia and Daniel!
It was awesome to see so many club members sporting both the new and classic versions of the QOC jerseys. Thank you to Kathleen and Greg Lennon for organizing the design & ordering and to Karla Hulett for the mailing!
Early morning orienteers, braving the chilly temperatures, were met with warm smiles from Harry Jones and Heather Phelps at the registration desk, Parker Nevenglosky giving beginner instructions, and Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer at e-punch check-in/registration. These volunteers (appropriately dressed in warm layers!) expertly handled the soloists, multi-person teams as well as the larger groups from LCHS NJROTC, various boy and girl scout groups, and the Linder Academy.
We are also pleased to welcome the first-ever group participation in a QOC event by an ROTC unit - Marine-Corps-Option members of the GWU/Catholic University/Georgetown/Howard Navy ROTC consortium. Good to see future Marine officers at our event, and we hope to see more of it going forward.
And great to have those practicing for their upcoming US Army land navigation competition at our event as well.
By late morning, the weather turned gorgeous. Heather Walsh took over at the registration desk and Tom O’Donnell at the beginner instruction, continuing the excellent work from the morning team. Amy and Valerie continued tirelessly with e-punch check-in, swiftly handling the many orienteers eager to explore the courses.
Thank you to Ted Good, John Organek, Jennifer Fauth, Charles Carrick, Art Cantrell, Justin Brown, Sharmagh Yepremian, Martins Jonass and Wahab for control pick-up after completing your own courses (in very hilly terrain), especially those retrieving the farthest controls!
Thanks to Sharmagh for organizing the meet-up at the Main Street Pub afterwards! It was great fun to catch-up over food and drinks while reviewing (and sometimes debating!) route choices.
A big thank you also to:

• Valerie for printing, sealing, and delivering the maps/clue sheets and registration lists.
• Greg for the many updates to the event webpage and working with me late on Saturday with last minute items.
• Wahab for helping with set-up, parking, and pitching in where help was needed.
• All those who stayed late to help with clean-up and ensuring all controls were accounted for (Keg, Ted, Charles, Amy, Art, Wahab, Martins, Sharmagh, Jennifer Fauth).
• Sidney Sachs for providing the detailed stats.
• Kathleen for co-ordinating and publishing the photos.
• Charles for answering my many questions, ensuring all the behind-the-scenes items were successfully completed, keeping me on track and arriving at the event early and staying to the end!
• Matt Knight, Bob Fawcett, and František Brabec who offered to be back-up volunteers.
