Wow! 393 adults, children, pets, pirates, superheroes, animals, and more registered to attend our Halloween Orienteering Spectacular at Wheaton Regional Park making it one of the largest regional events hosted by QOC. The weather was perfect and smiles could be seen on everyone's faces as they searched for tricks and treats in the woods.

With a crowd of this size we could not have pulled it off without the help of our volunteers. Thanks to Joe Barrett and Sydney Dixon who donated their time to design and set up the courses. Registration area setup and theming occurred with the help of Suzanne Izzo, Janine Dixon and Harry Jones. Decorations on and off the course were provided by Janine Dixon, Dasha Merkova, and Craig Shelden. Registration duties were performed by Harry Jones, Janine Dixon, Sharmagh Yepremian, and Jenny Kuenz. Instructing the many beginner orienteerers were Joseph Pastel, Greg Lennon, and Erin Brandt. Cleaning everything up were Debbie Pederson and Iva Zicha.

Mike Manteuffel served as assistant event director and helped find our control pickup squad: Tim Nolan, Heidi Onkst, Glenn Pastel, Jared Silk, Ted Good, Howie Weinstein, Sharmagh Yepremian, and Martins Jonass. They make quick work of clearing the woods of controls and skeletons. Mike was also instrumental in lending assistance when he encounted an injured runner out on the course. He made sure EMTs were quickly on the scene.

Junior training was organized by Adam Smith, John Cumings, and Alex Merka. Look for more Junior training opportunities at future events.

Valerie Meyer, Amy Louden, Mary Snieckus, and Wayne Sheranko ran the epunch station and made sure everyone had what they needed to go out on the courses. Valerie and Roger Meyer printed and sealed the maps for everyone and Harry Jones made sure they arrived in Wheaton. Suzanne Izzo and Cecilia Landers helped with setup and cleanup respectively. The cookies were baked by Amy Lounden.

We also need to thank Kathleen Lennon for getting everyone in the Halloween spirit, taking photos, and updating the QOC social media; Greg Lennon for doing website and registration duties; and Craig Shelden for supporting the event directors.
