Not quite fall weather, but a beautiful sunny day at Gunston Hall for orienteers of all levels of experience to enjoy. And a great start to the 2022-23 season.
Thanks to all the volunteers who were willing to spend some of their time helping put on the event:
Tavia Sullens provided us with an excellent set of courses and has learned the lesson that dealing with Gunston Hall as a course-setter is a lot easier than Mason Neck.
Paul Collinson was willing to step up as assistant event director, helping to coordinate the entire event, and we look forward to QOC meets in future seasons under his direction.
Bill Vienna and Einar Olsen worked the check-in desk. Einar jumped in to fill a gap that opened up in the volunteer slate late in the game.
Bob Fawcett, bringing his long experience in training the art of land navigation, and Matt Smith helped the club reinstate beginner instruction at QOC events after an 18-month pause.
John Baker, Justin and Lexie Brown and Tim McCormick kept runners safe at our Gunston Rd crossing point.
Going out into the woods for a second time to haul in the controls were Patrick Farley, Matthew Knight, Neal Attfield, Aleasa Chiles, Scott Sharp and Paul Hession. (Paul went out a third time to capture the elusive control 128.)
And our perennial e-punch team of Valerie Meyer and Amy Louden, assisted by Laura Linville and Sidney Dixon in e-punch operations and by others in set-up and tear-down, made the electronic punching go smoothly as always and tracked all the participants to see that everyone was accounted for at the end of the day.
