The weather was great and the turnout was excellent, despite being on Mother’s Day! We had over 200 participants and we were joined by competitors participating in the OUSA national team long-distance time trials. Perhaps some QOC members participated in the discussions that followed, well into the afternoon?
I’d like to thank Vido Aleksiev for designing a great set of challenging courses, both regular and for the team trials, in spite of the odd topology (and demanding topography) of the area. His control ‘spotting’ was vetted by Peggy Dickinson and Dave Pruden and to their credit, there were no complaints other than about the extensive climb! A special thanks to Vido and his family for doing this despite having to travel in multiple times from Charlottesville.
Our setup crew, Laura and Aaron Linville did their usual fine job and then went on to help Amy Louden with setting up the electronic portion of the registration process. Harry Jones and Karla Hulett were equally helpful by expertly handling the ‘manual’ portion of the registration process.
The elongated shape of this area puts a special burden on those having to go back out into the woods once again, after a hard run. I want to thank Bill Wright, Charles Carrick, John Vierow, and Matt Knight, for adding another hour of going through the woods, to pick up the controls.
And very special thanks to Valerie Meyer and Amy Louden for their great support handling the ‘digital platform’ that we old timers have seen dramatically transformed the meets. And thank you again to Laura and Aaron for doing double duty, and to Wendy Wroblewski for the help they gave to Amy.
Finally, this meet would not have been successful without the excellent coaching—and patience—that Charles Carrick provided. Virginia meet directors are very fortunate to have someone like Charles who attends to many can-be-overlooked details and who is there to help with tasks such as setup and control pickup.
A lot of volunteer effort goes into staging a meet like this. But if you had a positive experience, you made it all worthwhile! Good Job!
