The weather didn't look so good when we started to set up for this event at Patuxent River Park (it was cloudy and misting) but things turned around and by the end of the day it warmed up quite a bit and the sun parted the clouds. We were without NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) students and without some of our regulars. Despite the lack of those attendees, more than 150 people came out to try a course. Also joining us today were Robert Turbyfill and his Zero to Orange class. They will be back with us in a couple weeks at the next QOC event at Prince William Forest. Today's event was sucessful thanks in large part to a number of people. Craig Shelden designed the course and hung the controls with a lot of help from Suzanne Shelden. Tom Nolan reviewed the courses. Valerie Meyer printed all the maps. Suzanne Izzo, Clark Johnson, Lee Todd, and John Rosicky helped to get everyone registered. Heidi Onkst selflessly helmed the e-punch station throughout the day with help from Steve Mones. Ben Roberts directed parking. For those who needed a little refresher or were new to orienteering Jane Leggett, Nadim Ahmed, Miroslav Honzak, and Diana Todd were there to teach and help them get started on a course. Last but not least Craig Shelden, Travis Siehndel, Mark Mace, Chistopher Puin, Kim Jepsen, Anne Jepsen, and Daniel Shelden went out in to the woods after 3 PM to pick up all the controls.
