Patapsco McKeldin

Heavier rains fell to the south in the morning but conditions at McKeldin for this second QOC event of 2015 were actually not half bad - slightly damp leaves atop still frozen ground with at most very light rain falling during the event. Still, a certain optimistic hardiness was called for to turn up and take on some rather steep courses on a grey day - kudos to those who took up the challenge. And our apologies to the few early green course runners who, having done so, also started early enough to reach the location of their first control before it was hung - thank you for taking that in stride and apparently not letting it ruin your whole course. A lesson has been learned, one can hope, about the wisdom of not relying entirely on memory as to which controls are or aren't shared between courses when running a bit late hanging controls and deciding which ones can be left until ten minutes or so past the beginning of the start window.

As usual, the event couldn't have taken place without many volunteers - Mike Newman assisting with setup, Ben Roberts on setup, registration and keeping an eye on the parking situation, Mike Berry, Don Fish, Iva Zicha, Pat McNeilly, and Angela and Abby Furlow on registration, David Levine and Pat McNeilly on beginner instruction, Valerie Meyer, Amy Louden, Mary Snieckus, and Victoria Campbell on e-punch results duty, and Sam Listwak, David Levine, Mihai Sirbu and the whole Jepsen family - Anne, Kim and Esben - on control pickup.
