Glen Artney

Sunday's event at Glen Artney was held under a blue sky on a nice, breezy day. We all enjoy orienteering for the fun and challenge it brings, and based on anecdotes from the woods it seems we nailed the challenge part today, with the fun being a close second. The terrain was varied and interesting, and most of the 120 starts, including several first-timers, got the chance to run legs in the woods and in open, hilly areas. The unusual start location on a regular road near a mountain bike trailhead meant that we had a number of interested people stop by to see what all the fuss was about.

Special thanks must go to Ted Good for drawing the map over the last year and setting the controls with pinpoint accuracy in the days preceding the event. The weeds in the open areas and undergrowth in the woods had an unexpectedly good spring and probably were denser than mapped in some locations. Finally, welcome to the two new members who joined the club today.
