From the Washington Beltway, take exit 11 to MD-4 South/Pennsylvania Avenue. After 8 miles, exit onto US-301 North. Drive 3 miles then turn right onto Swanson Road. Stay on Swanson Road for about half a mile, then instead of turning right for Swanson Road, continue straight onto Swanson Road Spur. Follow Swanson Road Spur for another half mile+ to the parking area.
If your route brings you south on US-301, turn left onto Swanson Road - it's the next junction south of Leeland Road, with the right turn being onto Beech Tree Parkway and the left turn, crossing the highway onto Swanson Road, then follow directions above.

Swanson Road, also known as the Upper Marlboro Natural Area, is a roughly 900-acre section of the Patuxent River Park system along the river's western shore near Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
The terrain is classic mid-Atlantic spur-and-reentrant country mixed with Patuxent River lowlands and marshes. Several sections are noticeably steeper than QOC's other near-river venues, though the climbs are rewarded with open woods and, in fall, good color. Traces of the area's past, including old fields and homesteads in various stages of being reclaimed by the woods, are still visible on course. QOC typically sets a full range of classic courses, White through Blue.
With courses spanning beginner-friendly White and Yellow through advanced Blue, Swanson Road suits newcomers and families as well as more experienced orienteers looking for a change from flatter venues.
Parking is informal, in a grass field or along the road shoulder depending on the event, and check-in and e-punch are typically set up near the parking area. There are no pavilions or shelters on site, so come prepared for the weather; port-a-johns are provided, and leashed pets are welcome.
