Occoquan Regional Park

Occoquan Regional Park sits along the Occoquan River in Lorton, Virginia. Near the park entrance stands a beehive brick kiln, once used by prisoners of the adjacent Occoquan Workhouse in the early 20th century to make bricks for many public buildings around Washington, D.C.; the Workhouse itself later held around 168 women arrested in 1917 for picketing as part of the women's suffrage movement.

The park offers moderately hilly terrain, mostly runnable forest with generally good visibility, and some open recreational fields, bounded by a hard-surface multi-use trail. All courses except White and Yellow cross Mordor Drive, a lightly-traveled paved public road, at least once; a fenced-off closed landfill on the north part of the map is out of bounds and carries thicker-than-mapped undergrowth nearby. Vegetation density in particular runs behind current ground conditions in places. QOC typically sets a full range of classic courses here, from White through Blue.

This mostly open, hilly terrain makes Occoquan a favorite for groups, families, and organizations such as the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, which has partnered with QOC for events at this venue.

Check-in is typically at Shelter 4, with parking in the adjacent lot; there are no entrance or parking fees. The park's event center is home to the Brickmaker's Cafe, overlooking the river, a popular stop for orienteers after their run, and restrooms are nearby.
