Maryland SoccerPlex

Located in Germantown, Maryland, about 20 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., this venue combines two adjoining parks: the Maryland SoccerPlex (part of South Germantown Recreational Park) and the wooded Hoyles Mill Conservation Park next door. QOC events here are commonly called "Hoyle's Mill" even though check-in and parking are based at the SoccerPlex itself.

Hoyles Mill Conservation Park is mostly trailless, flat, and wooded, with subtle contours and some bland stretches, though small rock features — individual boulders, boulder clusters, and low cliffs, generally under 1.5 meters — are common and used heavily for control locations, adding real navigational interest for those who stay in close map contact. QOC typically sets its full range of courses here, White through Blue, with the more advanced courses often departing from a separate start point within the wooded Hoyles Mill terrain while the beginner courses start and finish nearer the SoccerPlex itself.

The flat, runnable terrain and the SoccerPlex's easy parking and open space make this a comfortable venue for beginners and groups, while the wooded Hoyles Mill section gives more experienced orienteers real technical navigation among its subtle landforms and rock features.

All of the SoccerPlex's soccer fields are strictly out of bounds during events; only the grassy borders around and between them may be used for route choices. Parking and check-in are at the SoccerPlex's field lots, with port-a-johns available at registration.
