Fountainhead Regional Park

Fountainhead Regional Park, along the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax County, Virginia, is one of QOC's most frequently used venues. The club rotates among three distinct sections of the park - Central, East, and West - across different events.

The terrain throughout the park is classic mid-Atlantic ridge-and-valley woods, generally fast underfoot. The West section, reached by a shuttle bus from a separate parking area, is considered some of the best orienteering terrain in the park; the Central and East sections are directly accessible from the main park entrance and share a network of trails with a mountain bike club, whose loops are closed to cyclists during QOC events. QOC typically sets a full range of classic courses, White through Blue.

The variety of terrain and full course range make Fountainhead a good fit for orienteers of every level, from newcomers on the White course to advanced competitors; it has also hosted a running of QOC's Bumble mass-start event, which rotates among different venues each year.

Check-in for the Central and East sections is typically at Shelter 1 near the main parking lot; the West section is reached by shuttle bus from a separate lot, so allow extra time when registering for a start window there. Port-a-johns are provided on site, and leashed pets are generally permitted, though not recommended for shuttle-access events.
