It was an amazing day for orienteering at Rosaryville. The weather forecast leading up to the event was not very promising. The forecast called for a 100% chance of rain in the afternoon, but aside from a very light intermittent sprinkle of rain the overcast skies actually made for great orienteering conditions. We understand that the new payment gate at the park entrance created a quite a backup. Hopefully, we will be able to work with the park rangers to minimize this inconvenience in the future. Thanks to all of you, who persevered and made it through the payment gate to the event.
There were 227 starts and a total of 265 participants at Rosaryville. We greatly appreciate the excellent courses designed and set by Mike & Pam Dvorsky. Mike & Pam made use of the entire park and the great variety of wooded and open fields characteristic of the park. In addition to setting the courses, they stuck around all day and helped out with various tasks throughout the day and helped to account for the controls collected. We are looking forward the courses that Mike & Pam are planning for the upcoming Kings Landing event in early March (3/5/23).
Our thanks to Valerie and Amy for handling the crush of participants at the epunch station. Fantastic job as usual. And thanks to Amy for the fudge and the cookies – it doesn’t seem like a QOC event without some of Amy’s baking and confectionery treats.
A hearty thank you to the volunteers who manned the check-in and map distribution table, including: Claire Winchester, Jon Barone, Heather Brabec, Harry Jones, Richard Briggs and Safiya Borie. Thanks also to Daniel Lathrop and David Levine, our beginner instructors, who worked with participants to see that they got off on the right bearing. Thanks to JP Landers and John Landers for showing up early and helping with set up and registration later in the day.
With 265 participants attending the event, obviously parking was a big concern. We are most appreciative of the job that Mike Dvorsky, Stephanie Coffin and Martin Houghton did in guiding cars to the proper parking areas.
Lastly, a big hearty thank you to the Control Pick up crew, who went back out into the woods at the end of the day to pick up a total of 48 controls on the courses, including Dave Linthicum, John Baker, Kevin Leary, Sharmagh Yepremian, Martins Jonass, Beatri Bennett, and Mike & Pam Dvorsky.
