Manassas
December 4
Sunday
QOC invites you to the historic Stuart's Hill section of Manassas National Battlefield Park - yes, that's General Jeb Stuart in the photo. Course details (White through Red) are now detailed below. Stuart's Hill terrain is more open than many, with large fields rare for our venues but also woods of all degrees of runnability.
Any youth or large groups attending, please contact the Event Director so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group; the group registration and waiver form is part of the information on our Group Leaders page.
Post-Race Hang-Out Spot: Bring a friend or just drop by the Cafe Rio in Manassas for the casual atmosphere and a burrito or soda. It's located ~1 mile south of I-66 at 7803 Sudley Road.
Nearby Attraction: The park's Henry Hill Visitor Center, located at 6511 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA, will be open from 8:30am - 5pm, and your park fee (for orienteering) covers admission. This museum has both static and dynamic displays, plus a 45 minute movie ('Manassas: End of Innocence') focusing on the Civil War battles that took place here, including over the terrain covered by our orienteering courses.
And Another Nearby Attraction: if you're around until dark, consider heading to the Bull Run Festival of Lights, now in its 13th year, located ~3 miles away on Rt. 29 just off I_66 in Centreville.
Event Directions: Take I-66 to Exit 47 in Manassas. Go South on Sudley Road (route 234). After a short distance, turn right onto Balls Ford Road (route 621). Proceed ~2 miles, then turn right onto Groveton Road (route 622). Go North ~1 mile to the picnic area entrance on the left. Google map link is below (in Location Details).
Please note the following about this park:
- A $3 per person (over 15 years old) park entrance fee should be deposited in the park collection boxes.
- Climbing on cannons and monuments is not allowed.
- Pets must be kept on a leash.
- Hunting for relics is strictly forbidden.

Course Notes | Classic Orienteering All courses will encounter areas with open fields and fast, runnable terrain. Note that rough open terrain may include tall or thick unmowed grass or thorny vegetation. Courses yellow and above will cross some small streams, but I was able to hop across on logs or rocks. However, these streams and other marshy areas may be wetter due to rains we received earlier this week. Drainage areas in open fields may also be muddy. Watch for horses and riders on the trails. Note that the start/finish area is not sheltered well from the wind. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
