Meet Director Mike Newman and Course Setter Jon Torrance are pleased to announce that:

  • All courses will be offered (White through Blue)
  • E-punching will be used on all courses
  • Registration will be near the barn, and heated restrooms with running water are nearby
  • Dogs are allowed but must be on leash at all time
Update: courses will be as follows - White 3.1km 8 controls 25m climb Yellow 3.8km 9 controls 45m climb Orange 4.9km 9 controls 140m climb Brown 4.8km 11 controls 160m climb Green 6.9km 10 controls 185m climb Red 8.8km 16 controls 225m climb Blue 12.0km 14 controls 315m climb White and Yellow maps will be printed at 1:7,500; all other courses at 1:10,000. Yes, a bit longer than usual for some of the courses but the expectation is that the woods will be quite open, even more after leaf off than they were during the course setting process, and the speeds consequently high. The map is, thanks to frequent updates courtesy of Dave Linthicum and the non-inclusion of rootstocks, in very good shape. The main thing to be careful of is reliance on the mapping of vegetation in some of the large flat areas above the stream valleys that provide most of the terrain's topographic detail. On the map in general, light green is quite runnable, medium green noticeably less so. The danger lies in believing that you'll be able to navigate across flat areas of light green speckled with patches of medium green by using the latter as collecting features. Perhaps the medium green will stand out from the light green better after leaf off than it did a few weeks ago but navigating across such areas by compass is still probably the way to go.
