Pohick

March 13
Sunday
Welcome to Pohick park via Camp Wilson! This will be a relatively rare opportunity to start from a different area than is typical for our Pohick events; make sure to note the driving directions to the registration area below since they are (slightly) different than you might be used to. As for the terrain, course setter Sid Sachs has designed a full set of 7 courses (beginner to advanced) and says the park is in fine condition and the ground is relatively soft and in places wet (especially in some of the pits) at this time of year; you may wish to bring a dry (extra) pair of shoes if you're doing any course other than white.

In terms of the map, it has not been updated to show new, private buildings (like houses) that have sprung up on the perimeter of the park. At this time of year, it can also be hard to notice some of the smaller trails, that may be covered in moist leaves. You should also be sure to check your control codes since you'll see some controls that are not on your course.

Courtesy pre-registration is now available for this meet (see Registration below) until 8pm Saturday, with or without payment in advance. Day-of registration will also be available, but is likely to mean a bit longer of a wait to register and get a map.

Pre-registration is here: Pre-registration will be available until tonight (Sat.) at 8pm using our Pop-up Pre-Reg Form. You'll save yourself (and us) time by pre-registering, but day-of registration will also be available. Note: please use the pop-up form window, and just ignore the extra form that replaces this QOC page. You can use the 'back' function on your browser to get back here.

Camp Wilson Sign Parking note: The parking situation at the Camp Wilson area is a bit more complex than usual. We will be using several non-hard surface areas whose normal function is as camping areas. They are relatively small and we will have volunteers to help vector vehicles off the main access road that runs through Camp Wilson and into one area after another as they are filled. Drive straight in the access road (see directions below) and continue until you encounter a parking volunteer.

Registration, start and finish will be in the vicinity of the large, barn-like, wood building at the end of the access road. There is a fixed restroom facility on site.

This will be the first event of the year to start at 12:00 noon. Reminder: Daylight Savings Time begins 2am 3/13, so set your clocks ahead one hour by early a.m the morning of Sunday, 13 March, the day of this event.

Any youth or large groups attending, please contact the Meet Director so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group; the group registration and waiver form is part of the information on our Group Leaders page.

  • Most of our events use an 'epunch' timing chip for electronic timing. Individuals or groups without their own epunch pay a higher entry fee (see above), which includes the loan of an epunch for that event. Loaned epunches that are lost incur a $40 replacement fee. Epunches (also known as SI-cards or finger sticks) can be purchased from online vendors as described here.
  • Former QOC members who have let their membership lapse pay non-member fees.
  • Compasses are available at no charge, but if lost incur a $15 replacement fee.
  • Please provide collateral (driver's license or car keys) when borrowing a compass or epunch.
  • For additional safety, whistles are available for sale at $1/each.
  • Free beginner instruction is always available - just ask at the registration table.
