Orienteering at Wheaton
Welcome back to beautiful Wheaton Regional Park! In recent years, the check-in and start area was near the miniature train station, but this year brings an exciting change. Check-in has moved to the athletic complex area in the south side of the park. From this starting point, course designer Nadim Ahmed has crafted engaging and interesting courses that promise a fun experience for all participants.
Parking and Check-in
There is ample parking in the area. However, Wheaton Regional Park is a popular park. Carpooling is encouraged as a courtesy to other park users. Check-in and e-punch will be located at the north side of the red restroom building, across the parking lot from the ice rink.
What to Bring:
Participants should come prepared with the following items:- Comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear
- Water bottle and snacks (QOC provides no food or water)
- Compass and whistle if you have them. Loaners are available if needed
- Dogs are permitted at this event but must be leashed at all times.
Volunteer
Volunteers make our events happen! If you have a bit of time to spare, contact the Event Director (listed below) - no special skills are required and you'll won't regret it.

Come check out the custom QOC jerseys and confirm your preferred size and style! We'll have them on display at this event from ~10:30am - 12pm. Orders must be placed by April 30; details are here.

Groups
QOC allows groups of up to 4 people to orienteer together. Any youth or large groups attending this event should contact the Event Director in advance so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group. Details and the required waiver form (for large groups) can be found on our Group Leaders webpage webpage.
Post-Event
After the event, take advantage of the Happy Hour menu extended all day to QOC event participants with a map thanks to their manager (Charlotte) at the Dish and Dram, located here, less than 4 miles away. From I-495 take Exit 31 for Georgia Avenue/MD 97 North. Follow Georgia Avenue north for almost 3 miles, then turn right onto Shorefield Road. Continue on Shorefield Road until you reach the parking area. Registration/check-in will be near Pavilion H.

Important Notes
- If you wish to become a QOC member you should join online in advance via this webpage (which also explains the member benefits). Membership is completely optional.
- Most of our events use an 'epunch' timing chip for electronic timing. Individuals or groups without their own epunch will be loaned one for that event. Loaned epunches that are lost incur a $40 replacement fee. Epunches (also known as SI-cards or finger sticks) can be purchased from online vendors as described here.
- Former QOC members who have let their membership lapse pay non-member fees.
- Compasses are available at no charge, but if lost incur a $15 replacement fee.
- Please provide collateral (such as car keys) when borrowing a compass or epunch.
