On Sunday, Jan. 28th we were back at Mason Neck State Park for a soggy day of orienteering, and possibly QOC’s first Marsh-O. Runners enjoyed the unique challenge of navigating overflowing marshes. Mother Nature cooperated to a large extent by curtailing the rain most of the day while we were out. Thank you to Will Hubsch who designed a full set of courses for this flat, very rain soaked terrain along the Potomac River. Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this event a success - Harry Jones, Bill Vienna and Susan Shoemaker at check-in and map distribution; John Cumings at beginner instruction; Francielo Dalla Costa for taking photos of today’s event; Will, Elina Breton, Stephen Pepe and Bill Wright who went back out in the woods to pick up the controls; and Steve Mones who helped with the big and all important job of clean up. Today we had a new JROTC group and special thanks go out to Jody Landers for helping them out with beginner instruction and to Greg Lennon for an after action debrief. Thank you too to Charles Carrick for end to end support and for taking care of all the details that make the event run without a hitch. And to Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer for their tireless dedication and expertise to print maps and run the epunch system.
