Permits have been received for the event! However, the weather may drive us to cancelation. As of Wednesday 7pm we are watching the forecast closely. As you’ll see in the notes below, Patapsco Valley State Park has a strict rain policy and the forecast does not bode well.
The event team will make a call no later than Friday am to open registration or to cancel the event. Also note that registration will be limited to 200 total participants, which is a condition of our permit. Details will be provided when/if registration opens.
Remember to set any clocks needing manual adjustment forward 1 hour as of 2am (Sunday March 13)!
Welcome back to the Glen Artney area of the Patapsco Valley State Park system. Course setters Glenn Pastel and Addie Nolan have designed a full set of courses (and detailed course and map notes are now posted below), applicable to all skill levels, which we hope you will come out and enjoy.
Parking and registration will be in the commuter parking lot at the intersection of S. Rolling Road and Rte. 166. Port-a-potties can be found at the registration site.
Important Note: Patapsco Valley State Park has a strict rain policy, which will force us to postpone or cancel the event in case of more than 1/4” of rain within the 24 hours preceding the event. Please check this webpage for possible cancellation notices before traveling to the meet if rain has been falling in the preceding 24+ hours as forecast. If we are forced to cancel this event after registration has opened, we will fully refund all entry fees.
ARDF Radio Orienteering Course: We will also be offering a ten-control Fox-O radio-direction-finding (ARDF) orienteering course designed by Mike Kholodov, a perfect complement to your classic course for those who would like to try a new orienteering experience. Click here for more details.
Safety Notes:
As with all 2021-2022 QOC events, this event requires pre-registration via the link below. QOC’s COVID risk reduction protocols, as also enumerated somewhat here [2], are in effect. Please read these guidelines carefully. Key points:

Course Notes | Classic Glen Artney might just be the greenest park in QOC's repertoire but the course setters have tried to keep orienteers away from the northern areas of the park which are overgrown with thorns and brambles. There are plenty of new rootstocks and mountain biking trails including a rerouting of the soapstone tail. The private property boundary overlapping the soapstone trail has been recently remapped. Please avoid the private property boundary lines. It would also be wise to avoid navigating by the rootstocks on the map. We hope that you enjoy running these courses and we would welcome any feedback on how to improve your experience as a participant. Thank you for supporting QOC and coming out to Glen Artney. Also, a shout out to the many volunteers that helped streamer and remap the park! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Entry Fees | Individual Entries
Note: juniors = under 21
Group Entries Participants are welcome to orienteer together as a group (up to the maximum for that event; usually 4). Each member of a group is charged their individual rate as shown above, up to a group total of $30 (maximum), and each receives a map. A group receives one epunch. Individuals or groups desiring to compete on a second course after completing their first can do so for a reduced fee of $2/map subject to approval at the event by the Event Director. Important Notes
