Was the course wet? Let’s put it this way, 50 yards into the race you had to cross the Lake Accotink spillway …er…river. This first obstacle was knee deep fast moving water, and if you fall you’re going down the rapids! To say it was wet was an understatement.

Thankfully we had people like Jon Torrance, course setter extraordinaire, and Rob Field spotting people as they crossed the torrent. Fortunately, no one was swept down the overflowing water, but that set the tone for a challenging day of orienteering. We had over 110 people take on the course, pretty crazy considering that it rained most of the day. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success. Volunteers included Amy Louden and Valerie Meyer for working the computer. Registration people included Helen Doherty, Steve Doherty, Paul Hession, and Jon Eric Bertheussen. Bill Vienna, Rob Field worked beginner instruction. Then Rob Field, Karen Butler, Paul Hession, John Organek and Jon Torrance helped out again with control pick-up. Also assisting were Victor Lin and Steve Van Winkle.
